I would score this a 7/10 and recommend seeing it once. Overall this is a nice, fresh delivery of the classic A Christmas Carol Dickens masterpiece that is definitely worth a viewing. Angels float around a dark screen during the intertitles. A Christmas Carol (1984 TV Movie) PG 100 min Drama, Family, Fantasy. In 1935, Seymour Hicks reprised the part he had made his own in thousands of stage versions, plus the 1913 film adaptation, and played the title role in this, the first talking version of the Dickens classic. The groundbreaking visual effects of that first adaptation would have made Mlis giddy. The best known silent adaptation of A Christmas Carol was the 1913 version starring Seymour Hicks as the miserly curmudgeon. There were a couple elements they went a bit too far, like the scene on the cover, but it didn't detract from the enjoyment of the film. Watching 57 versions of A Christmas Carol, spanning from 1901 to 2019, actually wound up producing a rich, fruitcake-like slice of American and British cinema history. That being said, Disneys Jim-Carrey-led version is perhaps one of the best and most book-accurate versions you can possibly find. There were many intense and scary elements, especially at the beginning and end. Disneys A Christmas Carol (6.8) The main reason for this versions rating is more than likely due to the weird motion capture CGI animation used to bring the story to life. The voices are well selected and Scrooge looked very similar to Carrey. I was thoroughly impressed by the settings and visualizations. The animation in this is remarkably good as are the presentation of the ghosts. This movie is directed by Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future) and contains the voices of Jim Carrey (The Mask), Gary Oldman (True Romance), Colin Firth (The King's Speech), Cary Elwes (Princess Bride), Robin Wright (Forrest Gump) and Bob Hoskins (Who Framed Roger Rabbit). The storyline delivers the classic Charles Dickens storyline in a fresh animation format with far more intensity and darkness than you'd expect from an animated picture. A Christmas Carol (2009) is a movie that I recently watched with my daughter on Disney+.
